Hello, honored guest, and welcome to NowIsForever! Please take the time to look around; we hope you will enjoy yourself while you are here. NowIsForever is a traditional Warriors roleplaying site set in the old forest. Our story takes place a few generations after SkyClan has been driven from the forest, well before the time of Bluestar or Firestar. We are always accepting new members, and our friendly members and staff will make sure to accommodate you to make sure that you can be integrated into the roleplay. Please consider joining our growing community; we know you'll love it!

Rivermist, a half-Clan queen in WindClan, and a half-Clan warrior from ShadowClan by the name of Foxfur had eight kits. The kits were raised in their mother's Clan until they were three moons old, when things changed.

After a request from the kits' father caused Rivermist to contemplate moving some of her kits to ShadowClan, WindClan's leader made the shocking decision to split the queen's kits evenly between all four Clans. Under the reasoning that the kits had the blood of all four Clans within them, two kits were sent to each of the other Clans, while two remained in WindClan with their mother.

Though all eight kits currently struggle with the after-effects of this tumultuous change, more is still to come. After the kits all become apprentices, one by one a kit from each Clan will die, until there is only one left alive in each of the four Clans. In honour of their fallen siblings, the apprentices will eventually take their dead littermates' suffix as their warrior prefix.

But what further troubles await these ill-fated offspring of a cursed union?

The Cats:

Rivermist ~ (Deceased)
Foxfur ~ (APC)
-----
Spottedkit ~ (Spore)
Stonekit ~ (Kitty)
Swiftkit ~ (Cai)

The Kits as Warriors:

Spottedstone -- ThunderClan
Swiftsand -- ShadowClan
Silverstorm -- WindClan
Shadowstream -- RiverClan

Five she-cat warriors of WindClan and RiverClan have been great friends for moons, and decide to do something crazy. They plan to get pregnant and have kits all at the same time, but one thing they don't count on is how many kits this really means!

The five queens each have four or five kits... that's a lot of kits to be born at the same time! But no-matter how tumultuous the idea seems, the queens have no idea what shocking change will come of their innocent plot.

The Queens:

Gingertail ~ (Kitty)
Thrushtail ~ (Ki)
Littlestream ~ (Izzie)
Doveclaw ~ (Spore)
Robinwing ~ (Cai)

The Mates:

Gingertail mentally heaved a sigh of relief, and her face broke into a grin. He seemed a bit reluctant, but he was Dustfur, and, besides, at least he'd agreed! She thought she'd ruined everything and chased him off, but nope. He was still willing to help her practice teaching fishing. Who cared if he was right and there would never really be a use for him to know how to fish? There wasn't really enough space on RiverClan territory for her to chase after rabbits, but she'd learned anyway.

"Well, you know, you never know when you'll need it! Say the river rises so much it overflows the gorge and WindClan can fish in it! Then you'll be glad you learned how to fish," she said matter-of-factly, then turned and led the way towards the nearest section of river, a bit farther downstream from where she'd been swimming earlier, but in a place that was shallower and slow-moving. Perfect for beginners.

"Mkay, come over here, Dustfur! I'll show you how you're supposed to sit. It's a lot different from rabbit-hunting, let me tell you!" The ginger she-cat waited for him to join her by the river, eyes gleaming warmly. How wonderful, getting to do two things she loved: fish and spend time with Dustfur.

Dustfur tilted his head a bit, confused over the idea of ever needing to know how to fish. He was a WindClan cat, and his Clan survived almost solely on the rabbits that thrived on the wide open moorland of their territory, with an occasional bird or vole or some other creature if they were lucky. Never had he touched water other than rain or drinking water, willingly that was, and he didn't imagine fish to possibly taste that good. Oh well, though... he thought, still watching Gingertail with curiosity and slight relief that the topic from just earlier had somehow been changed. Maybe he could try... as long as he didn't get too wet.

"If you say so..." he simply said, following after Gingertail as she led the way further into the unfamiliar RiverClan territory. What would happen if they were caught? He suddenly thought, his eyes widening. He didn't belong here, a cat from a different Clan, and if some patrol found them then Gingertail would surely be in trouble, too! She didn't seem to be very worried, but the possibility churned at the bottom of his stomach. If they were spotted, then he could just run, all the way back to WindClan, where it was safe... but he couldn't leave Gingertail behind if that happened, could he?

...

When they reached the spot Gingertail deemed the most suitable for him to practice in, Dustfur peered down into the river. It seemed to be rather shallow and slow, unlike other parts of the river he knew that spanned WindClan's territory. Looking closer, he found he couldn't see any fish. How was he supposed to catch them, if there weren't any here...? Looking back at Gingertail, he nodded. "Sure, just... show me what to do. I've never done this before, after all..."

(wahhhh so late ;o; my apologies. also sorry for the shortness. e_e)

Dustfur joined her on the riverbank. Gingertail beamed at him and demonstrated the proper sitting position for the form of fishing they were going to be using today. "Okay, sit just like this," she said, sitting in a slightly crouching sit with one paw slightly extended. She was careful not to let the shadow of her paw fall over the water. "Whatever you do, don't let your paw stick out over the water, because fish can tell when there's a shadow," she explained.

The two were sitting pretty close together, though not close enough to touch, to the she-cat's dismay. She'd probably chased him off, anyway, so it shouldn't matter. When she'd mentioned liking him he hadn't said anything about liking her in return. It was only through a miracle that she'd found this excuse to keep him hanging around longer. Otherwise he'd be halfway back to WindClan by now. Which would make Gingertail very sad.

She glanced up at him, waiting to see his sit-crouch and correct any mistakes he may make. He seemed a bit skittish being so near to the water, and Gingertail remembered that they didn't have water like this in WindClan. Only the gorge.

It was just another difference the two Clans had that made Gingertail feel even farther from the tom.

Dustfur took a few steps back from Gingertail, giving her room and watching as she began to demonstrate the proper technique. It was strange and unfamiliar to him, to say the least; he'd never seen anything quite like it before. It certainly wasn't any hunting stance that could be used to catch rabbits. That probably shouldn't have been surprising, but he couldn't help staring at Gingertail with a slightly confused look for the first few moments until he knew that he had to attempt it himself. Dustfur tried his best to mimic her stance, crouching slightly like she was and keeping absolutely quiet once he thought he had it almost right.

His eyes widened, though, when he noticed he was doing exactly what the she-cat warned him against. "Oh! Oops, sorry," he mumbled under his breath, quickly pulling his paw further away from the water's edge until its shadow was no longer cast over the surface of the water. He shuffled a bit, uncomfortable and trying to get used to this new position, all the while glancing at Gingertail and awaiting further instructions. He hoped he didn't have to try it all on his own without any more help; he had no idea what he was doing!

"...So, uh, what do I do now?" Dustfur asked uncertainly after a few more moments, hoping he wasn't doing anything wrong by asking in the first place. She looked like she was concentrating on something, or at least in thought, and he didn't know if there was some rule among RiverClan cats that you couldn't talk at all while fishing. That would be a really strange rule, he thought... how else was he supposed to learn what to do?

"Oh, no, you're fine," Gingertail assured the WindClan tom as he pulled his paw back over the river bank. "It's not your fault I didn't mention that to begin with." She probably should have told him that first thing, anyway. It was one of the most important parts of fishing: remaining undetected until you swooped in for the kill. In all hunting, really. You know, except for rabbits. You pretty much just had to outrun them. She'd learned that last time she'd seen Dustfur when he'd taught her how to catch rabbits. Personally, she found fishing infinitely easier and energy-preserving.

The ginger she-cat scooted a mouse-length closer to Dustfur, checking his posture to be sure he was sitting correctly. She found no massive discrepancies, so she took up the sitting crouch again. She found the uncertain way Dustfur asked about what to do next really cute, but attempted to force her mind to focus. He seemed like he was worried about talking because of the quiet way he spoke. He was usually quiet, anyway, but now he was even more soft-spoken.

"Now," she said, "you wait for a fish to swim by." Much to her disappointment, no fish happened to appear right at that heartbeat to make her statement seem amazingly impressive. "And when it does, you scoop it out with your paw." She sat in silence for a time that seemed long but in reality probably wasn't. At last, a small silvery creature drifted by. She hoped Dustfur was paying attention as her paw flashed out and scooped the fish up. It arced through the air and landed on the bank beside her, where she quickly dispatched it.

Glad she'd gotten the chance to show off her fishing skills for Dustfur, Gingertail turned and smiled. "Like that, see?"

Just wait for a fish to swim by? That sounded easy enough, he supposed, but it was a lot more difficult when he couldn't even see any of the fish. Were there just none around or was the water really cloudy and difficult to see through for some reason, or... maybe he wouldn't be good at this at all. Or maybe it was different because he was a WindClan cat. That had to be it. Dustfur nodded slightly to Gingertail's instructions, thinking they sounded pretty simple but were probably much more difficult in practice. As an apprentice he'd even had difficulty learning how to catch rabbits. Fishing couldn't possibly be anything other than more challenging. Still... he had to try, at least for Gingertail. She needed someone to practice mentoring with, after all.

The silence stretched on and, well, it was kind of strange. Dustfur wasn't really sure what they were waiting for (well, he did: they were waiting for fish, but he wasn't sure what he should be looking for himself. Maybe RiverClan cats had some kind of special water vision.) The WindClan tom found himself growing uncertain as the minutes ticked by and eventually he let his eyes wander to Gingertail to watch what she was doing. The she-cat was completely still, executing the stance she had tried to teach him perfectly, her concentration completely on the river she was staring at. It was... incredible, really, the fact that something was so natural to her and yet very strange and unusual for him. It was far too long until he finally realized that he was staring, and he quickly looked away, his fur burning in embarrassment and hoping she hadn't noticed.

Suddenly he heard a loud splash coming from the river. He looked back in time to see Gingertail scoop a fish out of the water and flinging it onto the dry bank, then pounce and finish its life just as quickly. It all happened in about two seconds and it wasn't until afterwards that he realized what had happened. His eyes widened and he stared in shock. "T-that was... wow." was all he could get himself to utter out, feeling like there was no way he would be able to accomplish what she had just done. He had no idea what he was doing, after all. But even so, he had to try or else disappoint Gingertail, when he already said he would attempt it. And he didn't really want to do that...

"...Guess it's my turn then..." Dustfur said, glancing one last time at the caught fish and then at the river it just came from. He turned back to the water and resumed his crouch, just the way Gingertail had showed him. He made sure his paw didn't go over the water to create a shadow, then settled down to wait. Seconds ticked by, then minutes. A flash of silver moved beneath the surface of the water and, assuming it must have been a fish, Dustfur lashed his paw out. With claws unsheathed, he clawed at the spot where the fish had been, but found his paw to be disappointingly empty.

"I, uh, I don't think I did it right..." he simply mumbled, his gaze facing the ground in shame. He hadn't really expected to succeed the first time, but it was still embarrassing.

Gingertail sat back, pleased with her fishing partner's awed and impressed reaction to the fish she'd caught, and watched Dustfur's first fishing attempt. She made certain to sit far enough away from the water that she wouldn't cast a shadow upon it, therefore ruining Dustfur's chances of catching anything. When she didn't see anything majorly wrong with his stance, she instead focused on his face. (This was a dangerous and overall unintelligent thing to do, especially since she was supposed to be watching his technique, not Dustfur himself. But the ginger she-cat could help herself.) His amber eyes were narrowed in concentration, and also uncertainty. Gingertail found the latter to be one of his most endearing qualities. Maybe she just had a thing for awkward toms.

She observed his expressions for a while, and found her gaze wandering to the rest of his body as well. He was long and lean, like all WindClan cats, and his pelt was short and tabby-colored, which also seemed to be a fairly common WindClan trait. Gingertail had never given much thought to the way other WindClan toms looked, but on Dustfur, the brown tabby-and-white/long-legged combo was something she found attractive. Not to mention his amber eyes...she'd never noticed it before, not really, but Dustfur was kind of an open book. Even a cat like her could read his emotions fairly easily. Not that this was a bad thing. She liked it. She preferred knowing what someone was feeling while conversing.

Or maybe she really was terrible at reading cats and just thought she was good at it. Gingertail was reading Dustfur completely wrong, for all she knew.

Suddenly Dustfur changed. It wasn't much, but it was enough to alert the RiverClan she-cat that something was about to happen. The tom tensed his muscles, and she looked down to his paw and caught sight of the fish just as his paw splashed into the water. Unsurprisingly, he'd missed the fish. He'd swiped just a bit too late. It was a good first try, though, and Gingertail said as much.

"You did beautifully, Dustfur," she gushed. "Your posture is right and your swipe wasn't bad, but you need to work on your timing. Don't worry about not catching the fish. No one ever catches a fish on their first try!"

Right... one more try, he told himself, it really wasn't surprising that he hadn't caught anything. Hardly any apprentices ever caught prey on their first try, no matter what they were hunting. Maybe he was being too hard on himself. The tom picked himself up a bit, glancing back at Gingertail, and then nodded. He wasn't quite sure what she meant by timing, but he figured he would try one more time before asking. "Thanks. But I guess I should try again, right...?" He already knew what the answer was as he turned his attention back to the river once more. This time he would try a bit harder, do something slightly different. Almost as if he was an apprentice. He had to try his best for Gingertail, after all. He didn't want to disappoint her...

He crouched down at the edge of the water once more, his attention completely focusing on the river below. His eyes scanned the area underneath the water, searching for any signs of the silver little creatures he had spotted just moments before. He inched forward a bit, becoming completely silent once more and raising his paw slightly, ready to be completely prepared at the first sight of prey. The minutes went by again, until Dustfur started to become impatient that he hadn't seen any fish. There were there somewhere, he had just seen them! He moved his head closer, narrowing his eyes, and suddenly a huge fish swam past him. THERE!

He flashed out his paw, striking the water with such force he was sure he would haul the fish out of the water. However, once again his claws remained empty, and even worse, he felt himself slipping and unable to regain his balance. Dustfur let out a startled yowl as he plunged head first into the water, feeling the cold instantly seep through his fur. Panicking, he flailed his paws until he felt solid ground beneath him and his head broke the surface of the water, allowing him to take in air and calm his frantic breathing. He was okay, but StarClan, that had almost scared him to death.

"I-I'm fine," he breathed out, looking around for Gingertail. That had been even more embarrassing than the first time, he didn't even know it could be possible...

((Awkward post is awkward. So I think that Gingertail should have panicked as well, and jumped into the water to save him... only to find out that the water was shallow enough for him to stand in. xD))

Dustfur crouched back over the water, with the pretense of trying again. He didn't look like he was entirely sure about what he was doing yet, but he seemed a bit more determined this time as he focused on the water. His stance was good, Gingertail thought. He had the makings of a good fish catcher. He just needed a little practice. We'll turn him into a RiverClan yet! she thought triumphantly, but quickly she scolded herself for thinking that way. Dustfur was a WindClan cat who probably wouldn't ever need this skill again after leaving RiverClan territory.

A rather large shape flashed in the water, drawing Gingertail's attention. It began swimming straight towards Dustfur. Her heart went out to him, encouraging him and cheering him on. You can do it! she chanted silently. He braced himself, tensing as the fish swam closer and closer...and then his paw flashed out, swooping down on the fish. It splashed in the water, but his paw came up empty. Her face fell, but that was still a good try. It was only his second attempt, after all. And now she knew what he was doing wrong. He needed to start swiping a bit earlier than he was; instead of striking when the fish was right in front of him, he needed to strike a heartbeat before so the fish wouldn't swim by.

But then something happened. Dustfur's front paw started slipping. One of them was already extended towards the water, and the momentum of his strike combined with the slippery grass was sending him into the river. She reached out to him...but missed barely, and he splashed into the river.

He can't swim! Dustfur doesn't know how to swim!

The thought drove her to frantically leap into the water after the flailing feline. He'll drown, he can't swim! she thought. She waded over to Dustfur, who'd ceased his flailing.

Wait...she waded. Feeling like a mousebrain at her frantic reaction, she remembered she'd chosen a shallower part of the river. The water only came up just past Gingertail's belly, and for a lanky WindClan cat like Dustfur it would just touch his belly fur. As a matter of fact, he was standing up now, having also come to the realization that he could touch the bottom here.

He looked around in a mixture of dejection and embarrassment. "I-I'm fine," he stuttered. He was soaked through, and Gingertail felt a pang of sympathy for the tom, as well as embarrassment at her own frantic reaction.

"Come on," she meowed comfortingly. "Let's get you dried off." She pressed her partially dry body against his drenched one and assisted him in the short trip to the river bank. Well, that was fun...
